Though I have been fishing the river mouth here in Nosara for years I usually take my rod, reel and myself down the surf and away from the mass of Ticos who are there fishing and surfing. Yes, they are normally catching fish and seem to know when, where, and how to catch fish in this part of the Pacific. I just do not want to bother them or worse yet get in their way. But yesterday I was the first one out there (at 4:30 A.M.!) and claimed a place where there had been good catches recently. The surf was up, low tide and no wind. Slowly, over the next hour, 2 other local fishermen came and joined me and we proceeded to catch nice Corvina (sea bass) in the 7 pound range (as the one shown - 28 inches!) from the surf.
This morning I was looking for a Nosara fishing repeat and once again I was the first there at 4:30. A short time later a Tico showed, the one from the previous day who had caught as well as I, and greeted me with a hand shake and a "Pura Vida". Needless to say, I felt welcomed and accepted into a hard club to join. Though we did not catch fish this morning I will remember the begining of this day, fishing for snook and corvina in the beautiful Nosara Pacific!
Pura Vida!
